Tamira Stewart plays a role in SAU Theatre's "Rhinoceros"

Tamira Stewart, of Magnolia, is a part of Southern Arkansas University's production of "Rhinoceros" at Harton Theatre from October 12-15, 2017.

Stewart is a graduate student in the School Counseling program. Stewart is the assistant house manager for the show.

The show will run at 7 p.m. nightly from October 12-14, as well a 2 p.m. peformance on October 15. An actor talk back session will follow the October 14 performance. Tickets can be purchased at www.showtix4u.com. Community patrons can purchase individual tickets for $8 on the website or by calling SAU Theatre at (870) 235-4291. SAU faculty, staff, and student tickets are $5.

"Rhinoceros," originally written by Eugene Ionesco and translated by Derek Prouse, is about a small town besieged by a stampeding rhinoceroses. As those very citizens begin transforming into rhinoceroses one by one, the town's social order is trampled on until almost nothing is left. One sane man, Berenger, remains, unable to change his form and identity.

This is SAU Theatre's first show of a series of productions for SAU's 2017-2018 Main Stage Theatre Season, and is directed by Tiffany Antone.

SAU Theatre's next play will be the musical "Madagascar - A Musical Adventure," which is scheduled to run November 16-19. The rest of the play season will include William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Hairspray".

Southern Arkansas University offers Arkansas's most affordable Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts with studies in Musical Theatre and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts with studies in Theatre. SAU's BFA in Musical Theatre started the fall of 2015, and it entails a complete theatre and music curriculum based on the National Association of Schools of Music. The NASM is the national accrediting agency for music and music-related disciplines.
