Talia Burton awarded at 2015 SAU Writing Contest

2015 May 18

Talia Burton, of Borger, recently earned a Second Place and Third Place award at Southern Arkansas University's 2015 Writing Contest.

Burton is a junior English:Teaching Certification major. She wrote "Forgetting Summer" and "Blame" in Short Fiction and Creative Nonfiction. She earned a cash prize and will have her work published in SAU's 2015 issue of "Emergence."

In Fall 2014, SAU launched a unique writing minor, which is designed to enable students to write effectively in a broad range of contexts. The ability to communicate clearly in writing has become one of the most marketable skills a student can possess, so this minor is recommended for anyone who will be writing reports or grant proposals in his or her work life. It is also effective preparation for careers in teaching, publishing, advertising, public relations, the law, and the ministry.

To find out more about the writing minor or about any of SAU's English and foreign language programs, contact Dr. James Ulmer at jkulmer@saumag.edu or (870)235-5085.
