Shelby Arnette earns role in "Our Town"

Shelby Arnette, of Hope, has earned a role in the upcoming Southern Arkansas University Theatre production of Thornton Wilder's Our Town.

The show will run at 7 p.m. nightly from Oct. 6-8, and at 2 p.m. on Oct. 9, 2016. There will be an actor talk back session after the play on Oct. 8.

Arnette will perform the roles of Choir Woman, Dead Woman, and Lady in Box for the show. She is a senior Musical Theatre major.

Our Town, written by Thornton Wilder, is a three-act play that revolves around a small fictional town called Grover's Corners. The play tells the everyday life stories of its citizens from the beginning of 1901 to 1913.

Our Town is the first of a series of productions presented for SAU's 2016-2017 Main Stage Theatre Season. Following Our Town is You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown showing Nov. 17-20, 2016; Dial M for Murder on Feb. 9-11, 2017; and Disney's The Little Mermaid April 20-23, 2017.

Southern Arkansas University offers Arkansas's most affordable Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts with studies in Musical Theatre and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts with studies in Theatre. SAU's BFA in Musical Theatre started the fall of 2015, and it entails a complete theatre and music curriculum based on the National Association of Schools of Music. The NASM is the national accrediting agency for music and music-related disciplines.
