Southern Arkansas University Phi Beta Lambda recently had eight members qualify for the PBL National Leadership Conference this June in Nashville, Tenn.

Andrew Sawyer, a sophomore accounting major from Paris, Texas. won first place in the Accounting Principles event and placed second in the Macroeconomics event. Sawyer currently serves as the SAU PBL Chapter Director of Community Service.

Eleven SAU PBL chapter members and two chapter advisers, Traci Hughes and Dr. Gerald Plumlee, recently attended a two-day conference in Little Rock. Hughes said the chapter brought home 13 state awards, including five first place awards.

Phi Beta Lambda is the post-secondary division of Future Business Leaders of America. Hughes said membership into PBL is open to all SAU students, not just those in the College of Business.

"PBL members rely on donations and fundraisers to cover the expense of attending the National Leadership Conference. All proceeds from fundraisers and donations will go towards hotel and travel expenses for the trip to Nationals," Hughes said.

For more information about PBL or if you would like to make a donation to help these students in their fundraising efforts, please contact Dr. Gerald Plumlee at 870-235-4303.
