Kristen Carpenter attends neuroscience lecture

2016 Mar 4

Kristen Carpenter, a Southern Arkansas University senior from Hampton, recently had the opportunity to attend a lecture on the neuroscience of learning.

Carpenter, accompanied by faculty members Dr. Dana Leighton and Dr. Jon Oxford, traveled to Texarkana with a group of SAU students in the fall a public lecture given by Dr. Dominic Cheng of John Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Cheng spoke on the neurobiological substrates involved in eyeblink conditioning and learning. This research has implications for the understanding and treatment of learning disorders in children and adults.

"Seeing an active researcher present cutting-edge neuroscience research is a rare and valuable experience for undergraduate students, and the students demonstrated their enthusiasm for the talk with questions and discussions with Dr. Cheng after the talk," said Dr. Leighton.

The trip was sponsored by the SAU Psychology Club.
