Kara Parke inducted into SAU's Education Honor Society

2013 Nov 15

Kara Parke, of Sarepta, LA., was recently initiated into the Southern Arkansas University chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education.

Parke is a senior Early Childhood Education major.

A total of 27 undergraduate students from the College of Education were initiated into the SAU Alpha Alpha Theta Chapter of KDP at SAU on Monday, November 11, 2013. Following the initiation ceremony, two guests from Union Elementary in Texarkana, Ark., spoke to the students and their families and friends.

One of the keynote speakers was Thelma Forte, the principal at Union Elementary, said that even though she did not attend SAU, she knows from her work with the University that the SAU College of Education produces strong teachers.

"The last four teachers I have hired have been from SAU," said Forte. "It has been an awesome thing hiring teachers from SAU. All I have to do is give them a Promethean pen and tell them to get the job done. Kudos to the College of Education at SAU. You're doing an awesome job."

Juanita Harris, a teacher at Union Elementary and alum from SAU, also presented with Forte. Harris is a perfect example to Forte's testament. Juanita graduated from SAU in May 2010, and was named "Teacher of the Year" for Union Elementary in the spring 2013.

The Kappa Delta Pi chapter in SAU and the College of Education endeavors to make a difference in people's lives through offering a better education.
