Decante Johnson goes on SAU community service trip to Oklahoma City

2014 Mar 5

Decante Johnson, from Hot Springs Nation, Ark., recently traveled with Southern Arkansas University Housing representatives and two student organizations on a community service trip to Oklahoma City.

Johnson is a Freshman Business Administration MIS major.

SAU students contributed to the community of Oklahoma City by moving up to 11,649 pounds of food at the Oklahoma City Food Bank. According to the food bank, it was equivalent to 9,907 meals.

While in Oklahoma City, the 43 students and chaperons also visited the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and the Oklahoma City Zoo. Two students also won tickets to an Oklahoma City Thunder professional basketball game against the visiting Miami Heat.

SAU Housing takes students in the Residential College and the Leadership College on a community service project each year. They have been on more than a dozen such trips.

Each trip has included one big project to benefit the community they visit, educational activities around that community, as well as "fun stuff," according to SAU Housing.

Southern Arkansas University Housing provides students with one of the most exciting aspects of the complete college experience. SAU Housing is designed around students to make their stay in SAU some of the best years of their lives. In the fall of 2013, SAU Housing set a record enrollment for students choosing to live on SAU's beautiful campus.
