Daniel Pletcher to perform in SAU Theatre's 'The Wizard of Oz'

Daniel Pletcher of Texarkana will be in the upcoming Southern Arkansas University Theatre production of The Wizard of Oz.

Pletcher is a freshman Political Science major. He is part of the Men's Emsemble.

The Wizard of Oz is SAU's annual spring musical for 2016, and will be presented in Harton Theatre at 7 p.m. nightly from April 21-23, 2016, and at 2 p.m. on April 24. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for student and children 12 and under, and can be purchased at www.showtix4u.com. The April 23 performance includes an actor talk-back.

This show combines the talent of more than 50 SAU students with faculty and community members of all ages playing roles in the cast and crew. This is the first muscial at SAU since the BFA in Musical Theatre was established in the fall of 2015. Previous year's musicals have included Beauty and the Beast and Seussical the Musical.

Click your heels together and join Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, Dorothy and her little dog Toto, as they journey through the magical land of Oz to meet the Wizard and obtain their heart's desires. Watch out for the Wicked Witch of the West and her winged monkeys as you rediscover the real story of Oz in this fantastic musical treat for all the family.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's new production of The Wizard of Oz is an enchanting adaptation of the all-time classic, totally reconceived for the stage by the award-winning creative team that delighted audiences of all ages with their recent London Palladium revival of The Sound of Music. Developed from the ever-popular MGM screenplay, this new production contains all the much-loved songs from the Oscar winning movie score, all the favorite characters and iconic moments, plus a few surprises along the way, including new songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The Wizard of Oz is directed and choreographed by Michael Susko, SAU's award-winning visiting director of theatre. Musical Director is Dr. David DeSeguirant, associate professor of music and director of choral activities. Production manager is Richard Vollmer.
