Alycya Thomas to perform in SAU's 'Romeo and Juliet'

Alycya Thomas of Jonesboro, Ark. has landed a part in Southern Arkansas University's first play of the 2014-15 season, "Romeo and Juliet."

Thomas is a freshman Theatre major. She will be playing the role of Nurse in William Shakespeare's classic.

"Romeo and Juliet" will be running October 9-12, 2014. Tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased online at www.showtix4u.com or by calling (870)235-4256. Season tickets are also available, with discounted prices to see all the exciting shows scheduled this season.

The show will also include two middle and high school matinee performances on Thursday, October 9, and Friday, October 10. For information about bringing a group to one of these matinees, please contact Lee Fuller, SAU theatre administrative assistant, at (870)235-4256.

The play is set in 1560, Verona, Italy and will showcase professionally-choreographed sword fighting, beautiful costumes, scenery, and lighting effects.

Guest Fight Director, Jake Guinn from Atlanta, GA., taught SAU students stage combat techniques and orchestrated exciting fights within the play.

Also, a guest appearance will be made by SAU Director of Theatre Clayton Guiltner, who will be playing the role of Sampson in the show. His wife, Erin Guiltner, will also participate by offering musical accompaniment.

Following "Romeo and Juliet," SAU theatre has the following schedule for the 2014-15 season: "A Christmas Carol," from December 4-7; "The Dutchman," from February 5-7; and "Disney's Beauty and the Beast," from April 23-26.
